The variety of the internal space of the PCB provides different spatial effects to the travelers. They first arrive at the Ground Level “Arrival Hall”, a pleasant welcome and gathering place which has vibrantly spacious 38m headroom. The clear circulation route is arranged to fulfill the basic functional requirements of boundary crossing facilities. A top-lighted green slot is inserted as a ‘lung’ area of the Arrival Hall, to make the cross-border environment close to nature and friendly (By repositioning the green slot, flexibility in the layouts for different numbers of counters and kiosks in operation is also allowed.) A curved ramp along tilted pillars leading to the first level is applied to enhance the variety of the entrance hall and provide changing views for the travelers who enjoy a full view of the surroundings and the artistic charisma of the ‘bamboo gate’ itself, in addition to its basic function as required.

On the first level, the ‘Departure Hall’ is even more grand and enjoyable. A great skylight is introduced to guide travelers through the Customs, Immigration and Quarantine (CIQ) facilities. The light well to GL still performs its ‘breath’ functions, while suspended bridges cross the slot and link the office with the hall. The uppermost mezzanine level and second level boasting a green garden form a vertically interactive space, giving the offices of both sides a sharp impression of an elevated panoramic view with a sense of openness from the roof skylight, providing travelers with a high quality space for their enjoyment. It is really an oasis for all, rather than a just functional ‘Departure Hall’.
